Local Context

High Lane Habitat Bank, spanning Stockport and Cheshire East LPAs, is another exciting nature project for GEDG and a clear demonstration of their commitment to regenerative land use.

Developed in partnership with Roger Hannah, the North West’s largest independent property consultancy, the project builds on the vision of the late Roger Hannah, who acquired the land with a wish to preserve and restore it for his family and future generations. The partnership was formed with the support of Managing Director Simon Cook, continuing Roger’s legacy through the involvement of his family, who have driven the conservation vision forward in his memory.

Strategically, the project strengthens local ecological networks and supports both the Cheshire & Warrington and Greater Manchester Local Nature Recovery Strategies.

High Lane Habitat Bank will stand as a living tribute to Roger Hannah’s legacy, transforming previously unmanaged woodland into a thriving, connected landscape for nature and community.

Habitat

The proposed habitat creation and enhancement at High Lane will deliver a significant uplift in biodiversity through the restoration and expansion of key natural features.

The site currently supports a range of woodland habitats, primarily lowland mixed deciduous woodland, alongside several watercourses.

The project will restore all high-quality woodland areas, while enhancing and diversifying the remaining woodland and associated river corridors to improve ecological condition, connectivity, and long-term habitat value.

Social Value

As with all our Habitat Banks, GEDG intends to create strong links with local schools and local interest groups who can visit the site on an organised basis and play a key role in the conservation activities.

GEDG’s approach to this site will provide buyers of units with additionality in terms of endangered and wider species monitoring, health and education opportunities. GEDG are retaining Middlemarch Environmental, owned by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, to monitor the habitat bank over the 30-year management period.
